CELEBRITIES ON CAMEO REACT TO CELEBRITY SUPER BOWL CAMEOS

Super Bowl ads have become famed for their A-List celebrity cameos, so we thought it would be fun to ask some other celebrities (on the website Cameo.com) to give us their reviews of this year’s ads and some of the celebrity cameos in them.

First up, Hellmann’s and their play on the famous diner scene from ‘When Harry Met Sally’. For this spot we’ve asked fellow sandwich lover Miriam Margolyes for her thoughts.

Miriam has a clear opinion on both the ad and on Donald Trump, you can probably guess which one she’s more positive about. She has some lovely things to say about the ad and even signs it off with a trademark Miriam Margolyes fart. For what it’s worth, we also enjoyed the ad.

Next was the inaugural entry from Totino’s Pizza Rolls. Who better to review this ad than the Don of fast food himself, Big John aka The Boshfather.

A bitesized review from Big John, but overwhelmingly positive. He loves the comedy and calls for more of it in advertising. Which is actually a rather astute observation of our industry as a whole, and one we agree with. Entertainment should be at the heart of everything we create.

Michelob ULTRA brought together Willem Dafoe and Catherine O’Hara as unsuspecting hustlers on the pickleball courts, so we asked the legend that is Judy Murray to rate their form.

The ad left a notable impression on Judy, with her being captivated by the sport of pickleball that’s showcased in this commercial. She loves the funky bats and balls, the sound it makes, and the accessibility of it. The ad is also very good too, so you should give it a watch then feel inspired to pick up a paddle.

Last on our list is Mountain Dew with one of the most beautifully bizarre ads from this year’s Super Bowl. For our final review we went to the King of Cameo, James Buckley. This one didn’t quite go to plan, but maybe he’s got a point – should we be wary of taking too much interest in commercials taking place in another country, around a sport that barely registers in our country’s cultural zeitgeist?

Whatever your views on the significance of the Super Bowl and the fanfare around it, it’s fun to see the cameos that pop up.
